Events

To support the objectives of the club, BODSAA runs a series of events to help new members find their way around our waters, to help them meet fellow members, improve their fishing and learn more about their quarry and the river Dee. All events are fishing related and vary through the season.

Usually, the first event attended by new members is a river walk. These are held close to the start of the season, usually in March. Established members of the club walk the river from top to bottom, showing all access points and the best stretches for each species and method at various times of the season and heights of water.

The obvious events relate to actual fishing. Events are held for trout, salmon, sea trout and grayling in season. For salmon, several methods are demonstrated, including fly, spin, worm and shrimp. All are informal events supported by members of the club.

We are fortunate at BODSAA to have a qualified AAPGAI instructor amongst our members. Karl Humphries holds at least one fly casting clinic for BODSAA each season. These are free to members.

Karl can be booked for private tuition on 07710 837551, with price on application.

Other events are held away from our beats.

Through our close association with the Environment Agency we hold trips to Chester Weir fish trap and Maerdy Hatchery.

We also hold events out of season, including fly tying demonstrations, again with Karl, as well as an annual dinner following the AGM.
