George Wallace

Wednesday 12th April:

With Manley Hall showing 4" above normal and the board at Dukes showing 8", the river level is absolutely perfect. However, the cool wind seems to be keeping fish away from the surface, despite strong hatches of grannoms, and fish I have heard about have come from close to the river bed.

No more reports of salmon, although some have been seen and two were reported caught between Groves Farm and Bangor on Dee on the same day that David had the lovely Springer reported here earlier.

A note for Groves Farm. Access to our fishing is now only across the field behind the car park, down the steps to the riverside and then upstream along the bank until you reach our water. Our landlord has been compelled to padlock the gate in the farmyard because of fly-tipping in the fields. What kind of a world do we live in? There will be access eventually via a new path behind the buildings, but in the meantime please use the route mentioned above. It is actually not very much further - it just feels like it when you have to climb the steps after a hard day!
