Rules

ALL ANGLERS

All anglers must be in possession of a valid Environment Agency licence covering the species for which they are fishing and must produce the licence in addition to their membership card if requested by a BODSAA Bailiff.

All anglers must be aware of, and comply with, the NRW rules relating to the species for which they are fishing, including seasons and permissible methods.

All anglers should be aware of, and must follow, the Countryside Code. We emphasise that fires must never be lit; anyone who does will lose their membership and/or be banned from purchasing day tickets.

All fish must be safely returned, regardless of species, other than those classed by NRW as invasive and requiring removal.

Members and visiting anglers must produce their membership card or day ticket when requested by a BODSAA bailiff or any full member of BODSAA.

VISITING ANGLERS

Visiting anglers must leave the water by sunset.

Any visitor found to be breaking the rules or threatening, abusing or assaulting a BODSAA bailiff will be expelled from the association waters and other clubs will be informed.

Juniors fishing alone must be over the age of 12 and produce their EA licence before purchasing a ticket.

Juniors under the age of 12 will be issued with tickets only if fishing with an adult, who will be responsible for the junior at all times.

CATCH REPORTS AND PUBLICITY

As is common practice in many other clubs, any member catching a salmon or seatrout must report the capture within 7 days using the "Catch Return" form on the BODSAA website. We also encourage members to report notable catches of non-migratory fish using the same Catch Return form The Committee will share this information as soon as possible with other members via Member Notices and/or the Forum without disclosing the precise location in order that all full members are aware that there are fish available without pressurising specific areas.

We encourage all members to report notable catches, coarse or game, on other social media to encourage retention of existing members and assist recruitment of new members. However, any reports should refer only to "BODSAA Waters" and must not name specific beats or pools and any photographs or videos must not disclose the location.

ETIQUETTE

Game anglers fishing a pool or run for a period of 20 minutes or more must give way to others if requested.

Coarse anglers must give way to wading game anglers when requested.

Wading anglers should fish down a pool without undue delay if another angler is waiting to follow them. The following angler should allow a 30 metres gap unless invited to follow sooner.

Anglers should not commence fishing within 75 metres downstream of another angler already wading down a pool unless invited.

BROWN TROUT FISHING RULES

Brown trout fishing is by fly only and with barbless/de-barbed hooks with a gape not greater than 10mm.

COARSE FISHING RULES

Only full members and day ticket anglers in possession of a trout or salmon permit are allowed to fly fish for coarse fish.
